AOn 30 January 2026, an agreement was signed between AIDGLOBAL and the Embassy of Japan in Mozambique, under the Assistance Programme for Community Projects and Human Security (APC). The project will benefit the children currently attending the five Community Schools in Chibuto District supported by the organization, namely those in Malehice, Chiconelane, Maivene, Bairro 25 de Junho Unit 2, and Bairro 25 deJunho Unit 4. The infrastructure construction project will also benefit the human resources of the schools and the broader educational community. The agreement includes the construction of 5 classrooms equipped with electricity, roofs, desks and chairs, as well as the construction of 3 latrines for children in 3 Community Schools to ensure sanitation and hygiene. The investment will also provide for the acquisition of 5 rainwater harvesting cisterns,
offering an additional source of water access — a natural resource that is becoming increasingly scarce due to climate change, which causes both prolonged droughts and intense rainfall, leading to the overflow of the Limpopo River and subsequent flooding. The communities where the schools are located will be able to use these classrooms for meetings with parents and guardians, meetings of the Community Management Council, training sessions, and other activities. These infrastructures aim to provide children with higher quality education, access to sanitation, good hygiene conditions, and a safe environment where they can play, learn and grow.
Present at the signing ceremony on Friday were AIDGLOBAL’s Project Officer, Jéssica Sitoe; APC Programme Consultant, Mauro Carimo; Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Mozambique, Shoji Misake; Chief of the Economic Cooperation Section of the Embassy of Japan in Mozambique, Okada Ginga; and the Ambassador of Japan to
Mozambique, Hamada Keiji. Publications
